Drawing and Gilding Ornaments
With Whitney McCrary
April 7 & 14, 2018
In this 2 day "enrichment workshop," mprove your ornamental motifs by working from historical examples of classical ornament. Study the symmetry, geometry, and structure of ornamental design while completing a series of ornamental studies based on motifs found in icon paintings. Complete several studies, or a single more finished ornament in ink or watercolour with gold leaf details.
WHITNEY MCCRARY received her BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005 before continuing her education at the Academy of Classical Design in North Carolina. The academy is an intensive drawing, painting, and mural program modeled after 19th century French Academies and influenced by Renaissance humanist philosophy. She later became an instructor at the academy, while also spending time studying in Paris as an artist’s assistant, and studying with classically trained artists across the United States. Her work is inspired by the quality and ideals of past masters, historical methods and materials, with an emphasis on aesthetics and imagination.
